THE DAVID HOLMES EFFECT
IDEA | ARTIST AND PLAYLIST
Why do we often absorb soundtracks in a different mode to other stand alone pieces of music? Is it because we sense there’s some specific and emotional visual queues being left behind?
The songs are first presented to us as part of a larger whole. The soundtrack for… The original score of… And therefore, we most likely come to the tracks thinking they’re not the full idea.
A David Holmes soundtrack, however, embraces its cinematic counterpart in a profoundly unique way. Through this curated playlist, note how Holmes interjects film dialogue in the same way his early tracks sample lyrical speech.
It’s interesting to see how a DJ composes a film score differently to say someone more orchestrally orientated. It’s almost paradoxical. The notion that by directing more attention to the fact these pieces are connected to a film, and owning that, they somehow grow stronger as independent ideas.
