PROCESS | SCRIPTS
Draft One
The script was the first structured form of the idea. I’ve always loved reading the screenplays for my favourite films, and so the script seemed like a natural way to blueprint the idea. This journey began as a three week long isolation in the hills outside Cale De Mijas, Spain. But I had a set a harder challenge than I realised. The blending of the comedy special’s single character monologue format with any traditional filmic narrative really showed me how little knowledge I had about structuring any kind of narrative. This lead to twenty or so drastically different script drafts.
Need to include more about the writing process itself. Going from writing jokes, creating character, keeping journal of resal emotions as they were experienced to inform the narrative, using notecards, writing in different locations, Screen Ireland — reference things and weave into narrative and don’t worry about it being repeated in The Diary section. This whole project is a diary. The diary section should just be a mini novel someone could be read if they want to go into more detail or just read about the life and thinking and creative discoveries alongside the project. Maybe the diary section should be framed like this too -0- have different sections for documenting life, discoveries about creativity, quotes about creativity, places where project was worked on, etc.
